Due to various other problems I have not tried it yet. It will be a while before I am able to, as I need physical access to the machine and I have not been able to conveniently do this.

One interesting note, if you can call "dubious advertising statements" interesting.

The website I bought this from says the stamp "can be re-inked." When I got it, the package clearly states (with multiple pictures and six languages, taking up the entire back of the box) that the stamp pad contained therein is most assuredly not to be re-inked.

I asked the sales department to clarify this. From the comment I got back, apparently "re-ink" now means "can purchase replacement cartridge." While I did indeed purchase a replacement cartridge, so I could continue to use the stamp while searching for a bottle of ink that invariably has gone missing in the meantime, I did specifically choose this model because of this capability.

Oh wow just noticed I had a comment over here. Damn broken wordpress notifications.

I'm still trying to figure out if my great grandfather became a citizen and when. The census records say yes, but they also say he didn't speak English which is a requirement. I'm still trying to find his full name, as I have yet to locate the birth certificate. The county he was supposedly born in has no record, for him or his elder brother. I need to start requesting ones for the younger siblings, as they were born after Ohio started centralizing birth records.

My aunt, my father's brother's wife, has some records their aunt gave her many years ago. I have no idea what they might be but perhaps useful. I just have to wait until she returns from the annual southern migration to dig them up. After then I'll likely get back to research.

I had a trial membership with ancestry.com and it was ok, but I cancelled it. I signed up for the deluxe international service to see what Italian records they have but there wasn't anything useful. I may try again with just the US membership later. They do make it very easy to search census records, and many of the ones I need, from New York City, are digitized.

Excellent. I have gotten a little obsessed with it all in the past few years, although no time for it in the last 6 months. All on ancestry.com. My hardest dead end so far has been in Ohio actually - great grandfather who was an itinerant preacher. In the end I contacted a sort of records department of the Methodist Episcopalian church and they dug up a couple records and photocopied them for me.

I've seen a lot of comments pretty much the same, nice idea but horrid execution. I couldn't justify the price for what was basically a trade show demonstration hall. I was only at the market an hour Saturday but really enjoyed it. By Sunday afternoon it was a zoo. I only went back because I wanted some more of those tomatoes.

Man, if you weren't interested in standing in line for 20 minutes for fancy festival food, then you would have hated the event at Fort Mason. That was a total ripoff.
My wife and I went on Sunday night. We pretty much spent the whole night in lines. You didn't get much to eat (tho what you got was really tasty), and you definitely didn't have time to talk to the artisans (since you couldn't waste time not being in line). We missed four pavilions entirely, and two of those (coffee and gelato) we missed because they closed early.
It was pretty much a 3.5-hour-long infomercial that we paid $120 to attend.
