Knitting Meeting
Saturday afternoon I went to the regular knitting gathering in Newtown, where I met up with my online buddy Monica. She's the one with the multicolor sock in the center. And there's a bunch of other Aussie knitters whose names I forget.

Coogee Beach
I stayed in a hostel in Coogee, a little beach town. It's quieter than the famous Bondi and really quite nice. It's mostly popular with locals and backpackers.
I sat out on the walkway eating my breakfast before sunrise. On a Sunday morning there were early joggers, a few leftover drunks and a cleaning crew.

Coogee Beach Pool
There is a little pool cut into the rocks at one end of the beach. Everywhere there is sandstone, and I climbed down from a tall outcropping to get this picture.

Gordon's Bay
A smaller cove, with a club's boathouse on the beach.

Another view.

Royal Botanic Gardens
Description for the following two photos. The garden is huge, and is part of an even larger park called The Domain. There are a number of sculptures installed around the park.

Downtown
A plaza downtown is set up with a huge video screen. The morning I was there it wasn't live because of the time difference, but there is free live video feeds of the games as they are available. What would NBC think?

Opera House
You just can't avoid it, so I had to take some pictures of the Opera House. I almost didn't want to because it's such a tourist thing. One thing you never see in the big sweeping glossy photos is that the roof is covered with small shaped tiles.

Opera House
Another more traditional view. From the Manly ferry.

Cargo Ship
We passed a large carge ship on the way back from Manly.

City View
A view of the city from the Paramatta Rivercat ferry.

City View
More from the Rivercat. This is the area near The Rocks and Darling Harbor, which I didn't visit. It appeared to be a huge tourist attraction much like Pier 39, so I skipped it in favor of lunch in Chinatown.
|
Bridge Pylon
The Paramatta ferry goes under the bridge. I should have been earlier to get the best light, but I still got a good view from the ferry in the late afternoon.
