SF Tour: Japantown

Peace Plaza Tower
Peace Plaza Tower
The center of Japantown is a shopping mall and the Peace Plaza. When I first saw the tower some years ago, it was in sad shape. It has since been cleaned up and the whole area looks much nicer now. To get to Japantown, you can take the 38 Geary bus.
Peace Plaza Fountain
Peace Plaza Fountain
The Peace Plaza fountain. When I took this picture, it was a few more weeks yet before the Cherry Blossom festival, when the fountain was filled with flower petals.
Maruwa
Maruwa
Maruwa Supermarket at Post and Webster in Japantown. There are cheaper places, but they have an excellent selection, including many items imported from Japan. Sometimes I even know what they are, occasionally a problem in a store where not everything is labeled in English.
Groceries
Groceries
Today's shopping: a few snack items we like, and something for the road. This was the first time I saw onigiri (rice balls) available in the ready-to-eat section so I got one, sake and okaka. I still don't know what okaka is, but at least I knew that "sake" is salmon so there was a good chance I would like it.
Nihon Machi Sign
Nihon Machi Sign
The pedestrian way across Post Street from the Peace Plaza. This Denny's is also open 24 hours, but has a few extra menu items than the one downtown.
Nihon Machi Plaza

More of the pedestrian way. Soko Hardware has all kinds of interesting Japanese goodies, including a large selection of imported dinnerware and kitchen items.
